If I played the thought game of time travel, I'd like to go back to the Etruscans and ask them where the heck they came from and could they teach me their elusive language.

:’) Like everyone, the Etruscans identified with a distant homeland, and were widely known in antiquity for having migrated to Italy, but they intermarried with the locals, and adopted or continued to obtain some local ware, e.g. pottery; there may well have been a lower social class made up of the descendants of the previous inhabitants.
