His website accepts donations, he loans his campaign money. One doesn’t loan money unless one expects the loan to be repaid.

FEC rules require that the Trump campaign be a separate legal and accounting entity. This type of bookkeeping is pretty standard in holding company situations. One of the ways he's self-funding is that the plane owner (Trump) is leasing the plane to the Trump campaign. But the campaign is being funded by Trump himself for the most part, so he's in fact paying himself.

But net it out and what you have is he's using his own plane to get around, and there are costs associated with operating and maintaining an aircraft that are being covered by him alone.

That is the nature of how a self-funding campaign works.
Remember back in 2008 Hillary loaned her campaign about $25 Million?

The FEC requires different accounting rules for these campaigns.
