'BMI is a waste of time': Measurement is WRONGLY branding millions of fat people unhealthy, experts claimNice oxymoronic headline, either way. And also, kilograms are a measure of mass, not weight.

I knew it was crap when they had President Bush as overweight.

Standards claim I need to lose 20 pounds based on my height 5’9”. No way in hell can I sustain myself at that weight.

And Chris Christie is pleasingly plump.

Marilyn Muroe, Gina Lolobrigeda, Jean Harlow, Jayne Mansfield et al would ALL have been considered obese by the BMI nonsense.
Fred Astaire would have been borderline overweight while filming “Singing in the Rain”, FCOL!

When I was in the best shape of my life I had a body mass index of 24.6. Patently absurd measurement that does not account for frame and muscle mass.

True, but does that matter to anyone who is not an astronaut?

Very true.
HOWEVER...there is no denying there are a sh!tload of overweight people in the US.
Many of them on food stamps.
To: Olog-hai
I agree is not a great tool.
To: gaijin
counting from left to right, #1 is the SAME PERSON as #3 and #2 is the same as #4:
Notice that in both cases, their BMI's radically went up, suggesting that their final photos show people who became really fat and LESS healthy.
.....???
Do the two photos on the right really show "fat people"...?

Yep, I’m one of ‘em. I’m not even “fat” but since my weight is so high compared to my height, doctors (even the ones who are looking right at me) say I’m “obese.” Doctors can be such morons.
To: Olog-hai
I deal with BMI because of the IDF and routinely flunk.
I have about a 7% bodyfat and can deadlift north of 405 easily. I do a 7 minute mile as a warm up.
It’s completely stupid and based on 1970s science that we should all be stick people gay marathon runners.

I don’t need BMI info to know most fat people are unhealthy.

You are absolutely correct. It infuriates me to see "obese" next to my name on paperwork at my doctor's office.
I am ultra-fit and completely meticulous about my diet.
The reason it annoys me is for when someday 0bamaCare starts metering medical care based upon what the so-called patient database says.
