We need some clarification on “mass shooting”. 4 people including the shooter, apparently result of a chance meeting and spontaneous altercation, is not what we colloquially term “mass shooting”.
Wish we could somehow either clarify, or find another term, that it’s referring to a premeditated action with the deliberate intention to slaughter a maximum number of people, practically complete strangers, not acting legally in unison*.
* - to wit, a gang/mob where criminal acts by one are shared by the whole group. Ex.: a gang of bikers harassing/threatening a guy at a gas station.
I wouldn't call it "clarification" but we are informed by the likes of the Violence Policy Center that the definition has changed to any shooting in which two or more people are wounded. That's why the statistics they love to spout make it look like the problem is increasing rather than declining as it actually is.
