Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, locked in a tight race in Iowa with front-runner Hillary Clinton, dominated conversation about the state's caucuses on Facebook Inc (FB.O) on Monday, the social network said.
From midnight to noon CST (0600-1800 GMT), 42.2 percent of conversations about the caucuses were about Sanders, the senator from Vermont, compared with 21.7 percent for Republican front-runner Donald Trump and 13.1 percent for Clinton, according to Facebook.
Iowans begin choosing candidates at 7 p.m. CST (0100 GMT on Tuesday), with results expected within a few hours. The contest is the first of the state-by-state battles to pick nominees for the Nov. 8 election to succeed President Barack Obama.
The Facebook data is surprising given Trump's success in using social media as a campaigning tool in his presidential bid.

Facebook is mining its data of users’ posts to find out how users feel about certain candidates or issues and sharing that data with ABC News and BuzzFeed for use in their 2016 reporting, the social-networking site will announce on Friday.
The data will be gathered from the posts of Facebook users in the United States 18 and older, classifying sentiments about a politician or issue as positive, negative or neutral. The data can also be broken down into sentiments by gender and location, making it possible to see how Facebook users in the key primary states of Iowa or New Hampshire feel about certain presidential candidates, or how women in Florida feel about same-sex marriage...
