Bobby was a vet when I was racing in the late 70’s. His Dad Johnny raced until he was 90... he won everything because all the guys he raced on velodromes and horse tracks in the 30’s were dead. Bobby’s Mom Zoe also raced. Bobby himself started on a fixed gear at age 3. He was a magician on a bike. He could move through a pack of 50 faster than a young buck could move by one the outside. Once saw him ride through a mass crash by hopping his bike over the fallen.
Bunny hopping over bodies on the road is truly a lost art.
As a youth I practiced that move for many, many hours.
Kids today have no understanding of the classics!
