The location and the number of his children, makes one wonder if he was practicing plural marriage, along with others in the region for over 100 years?
Short Creek, Hildale, Colorado City etc.
From what I’ve seen and read, only married to one woman and many of the children were fostered or adopted.
I don’t think this is the time to speculate on such matters.
Will only help to lead this thread down a path that I don’t think is appropriate for the forum or topic.
I am ashamed to admit that before the 26th, I only paid passing interest in the Oregon Standoff. After that time, I have started to educate myself a little about the issues at hand, including viewing LaVoy’s youtube video channel. Nothing I have seen indicates he is a member of FLDS.
Large families are common in more than just that particular sect. In my own family for example, my mom is one of eight (PA Dutch/Anabaptist), my husband is from a brood of thirteen (non-religous farming family from Colorado & Alberta), and I know many Amish families back in beautiful upstate NY where no one would think it odd to have eleven children with one husband and one wife.
I think most were foster children.
