One of the interesting assumptions infecting this election season is that a self-funded wealthy candidate is less likely to make corrupt deals. If a candidate doesn't solicit money from the public (which, by the way, every candidate for president does), so the story goes, he won't be beholden to do favors.
But what if a candidate had a ready reserve of millions? Could that candidate buy off media outlets, public figures and educational institutions? Answer: probably, if he knows how to do the deal.
Expenditures on behalf of a campaign, of course, must be reported to the Federal Election Commission. If a campaign pays a public figure to work on a campaign, for example, that must be disclosed in periodic filings with the Federal Election Commission.
But what if a candidate had a measure of control over a vast network of corporate entities unaffiliated with the campaign, save through the candidate himself? Could

I’ve learned this from recent reading, including about old time trusted conservatives. You can ignore or say I’m crazy. It’s okay and I wish I were wrong. It bothers me that Trump is corrupting conservative organs and sits.
It was. And I’m no fan of Colbert. But seeing the fraud Trump debate the other fraud, Trump, is a hoot. At least if during this election cycle Trump only damages the Republican Party we who are the now mocked purist don’t have to worry about the Republican Party. Real conservatives will be able to say after his bought-and-paid-for hostile takeover of the Republican Party, hey, he’s not us. Phonies and dilettantes who never new that we meant it when we said “character matters” a “word is a man’s bond,” and “words mean things,” will be fine with phony Trump.
Very seldom like things of this nature but this is a hoot!!
I hope Mr. Trump’s lawyers sue you for publishing a libel!
I hope Trump’s third wife poses in the nude again, too.
Better someone who has the right position half the time than someone who’s wrong all the time.
It isn't just a question of what the candidate could buy, but a question of what endorsements might mean for future deals, whether or not the candidate is wealthy. The latter has always been in play with the unscrupulous.
Trump is ignorant? You’d probably be happy to be as ignorant.
