Jefferson Airplane was a great band - saw them live in 1967.
Hence your FR name lol
I was a huge fan of the group back then. I mean Grace had a great voice and great looks. Grace and Marty Balin were the two best singers and songwriters in the group.
But after "Somebody To Love" and "White Rabbit," little of Slick's great voice was heard on subsequent tracks. She had one of the greatest voices in rock. "Surrealistic Pillow" (which they later disparaged) is one of the greatest albums of that era and one I still listen to.
But that was the pinnacle of their artistic success. Every album after that was either mediocre or downright awful. Of course, it didn't help that they turned almost completely political culminating in the dreck that was "Volunteers." And "Crown Of Creation" was cringeworthy bad. I guess the drugs had done too much damage by that time.
I think Kantner sort of took over the band after SP. Too much of Kantner's mostly lousy songs and mediocre voice started taking precedence.
