The Cadillac of all the AK variants made has got to be the Israeli Galil ARM rifle and SAR carbine. Although replaced in front line service by the Tavor bull pup assault rifle, the Galil remains in service with the IDF and is the best of the AKs. The Galil has: 1) a folding stock patterned after the FN FAL Para, 2) ambidextrous safety, 3) upswept bolt handle for charging the rifle or clearing jams with the left hand while the right remains on the pistol grip and controls, 4) relocation and redesign of the rear sight with both windage and elevation adjustment, 5) built-in optics mount, 6) flip-up night sights, 7) adjustable gas system. [Standard ARM rifles have a folding carrying handle and detachable bipod.]

The only criticism of the Galil is the Israelis adopted the Stoner 63A 5.56 NATO magazines for their Galils in 35-round and 50-round capacities. If you have a Galil or its clone called the Golan, original Israeli magazines are hard to find and are expensive when you do find them.
