Ted Cruz is not part of the GOPe, the GOPe HATES him. Most Cruz supporters have (up to now, maybe) would have jumped ship to support Trump because he is (in their eyes) the only other NON-GOPe candidate left to vote for.
This who primary has proven that the establishment cannot gain traction (ie Jeb Bush, Chris Cristie, Marco Rubio) and is the very reason why for a while the top 3 candidates were Trump, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz.
Sorry but as a supporter of both Ted Cruz and (still) Donald Trump, I can assure you that I do not support Ted Cruz because I’m pro-GOPe.
Let’s not give the GOPe credit they do not deserve. They are not doing as well as you claim.
By the way, Donald Trump himself admitted that the reason why he targeted Ted Cruz was because Ted Cruz moved higher in the polls.

I agree Cruz is not GOPe. He is just a convenient tool at the moment for them. Once he helps take down Trump he will be a softer target for them.
