” The journey time would be an estimated 18 hours and 34 minutes, according to the journey planning website travelmath.com.”
Not on a bet.
Does Qatar serve booze on the plane or is it Sharia compliant? Some people might go nuts without some alcohol to pass the 18+ hours.
After Navy Boot Camp, I spent 14 hours in a flight from Ca. to The Phillipines. I was so cold and stiff, it took me a while to loosen up. That was back when I was just 21 years old. If a planecraft was big enough to allow for passengers to actually walk around while in flight, I could consider an 18 hour pilgrimage, but not till then. I want windows too, lots and lots of windows to see the clouds rushing by.
Dustin Hoffman will only fly Qantas.
Idiotic, i had two 10 hour flights last month just from Honolulu to Sydney and back.
Recliners, with the option of a widescreen tv, a puter and sitting in my underwear and i could handle it, do that every day.
BFD.
My longest commercial flight was Seoul to Detroit, just over 14 hours. Took some sleep medication and dozed most of the way.
Worst part of the trip was on the ground, before takeoff. The trip was in June, and most of the Koreans onboard had one last plate of kimchee before heading to the airport. It was hot and for some reason, the external air conditioning wasn’t working very well. Nothing like 300+ Koreans sweating off their last bit of Kimchee before we took off.
My longest mission as an Air Force crew member was 15.9 in an EC-130E. Fortunately, it was a busy day, and we could get up and move around during the occasional lull. One of my squadron commanders had a 22 hour mission in Compass Call (EC-130H) during the invasion of Panama. They launched out of Eglin, flew down to Panama, did their jamming mission, then discovered they couldn’t land at Howard AB in the former Canal Zone. So, they coordinated additional tanker support and flew back home to Davis-Monthan.
I am amazed by some of the missions flown by B-2 crews. If I’m not mistaken, their “record” is 45 hours, and they’ve flown lots of sorties that are 30+ hours in duration. I don’t care how much cockpit automation you have, or the ability to take a nap, that’s a long time in an airplane.
Do they have that many Muzzis in New Zealand?
I can’t imagine spending 18 hrs, even 5 hrs on a plane.
A few months ago watched the Quantas A380 land at DFW coming from Australia.
Even the plane looked tired. :^)
Thanks for the invite. But the Jennifer whats-her-name jokes write themselves. :-)
The world’s longest flight is a transoceanic flight stuck between two fat, smelly, rude, obnoxious passengers. I’m glad my flying days are over.
