Well thought out.
Sometimes the most obvious things are the things we ignore. We’ve got a society so pumped up with willful pretense today, that something sincere, even if misguided, looks quite novel. And of all the criticism I have heard about Trump, there are many laments about how “liberal” he is, and some about how he’s a sinner, and some about shifting beliefs, but very little about actually being insincere. This has dawned on would-be Cruz supporters who more and more are seeing contemporary sincerity issues with their fellow.
There is something within us, I believe, that would sooner deal with someone who is erring but honest, than with someone who seems to mostly get the formula right but fudges the account. We can reason with the first person and we know on what basis we can reason, because he makes it clear what he believes. The second one is, in the end, an unaccountable loose cannon.
