Not intending to be Clintonesque, but it kinda depends on what the definition of "debate" is.

Does a townhall where questions come from the voters count? Is an unmoderated discussion a debate? How about a "candidate forum"?

They could do it, and further turn the establishment on its head if they really wanted to.
