I think that the two newest releases of Google Chrome are broken.
Version 47.0.2526.111 m
Version 48.0.2564.82 m
I get the spinning blue circle for NO reason at all occasionally.
All other applications function normally. RAM usage for Chrome appears to be normal.
There's rumblings on Chrome forums, but I don't see a definitive in-your-face "It's Broken!" yet.
Maybe it's a New Year's exercise thingee...

Version 47.0.2526.106 (64-bit)
Works fine.
Sorry I see you said 111 - feel free to ignore my comment ...
I have the hardest time with a few of the well known conservative web sites. With my add blocker up all s fine. With my ad blocker suspended these web sites just assault my browser and end up leaving a dozen or so zombie chrome processes that eventually eat up the memory and cpu time slowing my computer to a crawl.
My computer is built from new off the shelf components, dual SSD drives, 16G memory and an A10 8 core AMD processor, 65Mbits/s internet.

Chrome discards allows you to “discard” a tab, freeing up any RAM that it’s using. It still remains as a tab on your browser that can be clicked, and reactivated.
