Microsoft is trash. I hate them. I hate this. But I’m stuck using their trash. This new windows 10 is going to cost me nearly 10k in upgraded...EVERYTHING by the time this is done. All my engineering software needs to be upgraded. All my CNC software needs to be upgraded. The software companies won’t support the older stuff so guess what. New hardware, required windows 10 to keep current on the software I use.

THEN. To really insult the end user you can not turn off auto update with Windows 10. I was sitting working away on an in depth design engineering project when all of a sudden “WINDOWS IS UPGRADING” It gives no option to postpone or cancel. It gave no warning. It just closed all my open windows and downloaded for about 1 hour and I lost what wasn’t saved. There was no way to escape from this. What if I am sitting in a board room somewhere with clients? Complete and total trash. The only option you have now is to receive a warning before it auto updates and reboots.

One of my CNC controllers is infested with that god awful GWX.exe windows 10 nag screen. It no longer even asks if you want the windows 10. It says “Start upgrading now or wait until later.” I’ve gone so far as to have to write a script that gets that “Get Windows 10” crap but it still gets through.

I’m glad I have a stack of old notebooks that are off line but the nature of the software I use and the products I produce I’m forced to use Microsoft’s terrible crap OS. A curse on you Bill Gates.

Have you tried “GWX Stopper”...seemed to work on my mom’s Win 7 Pro machine.

(I am OS X as of 3 years ago, not looking back).
