One does not get “infected” with scurvy. It is caused by a lack of Vitamin C in the diet. Humans were transitioning from a hunter/gatherer diet to a grain diet, and thus setting themselves up for various deficiencies—Vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium, etc.
