I believe he was also a student of Beethoven. Taught Lishititzki, who taught Schnabel, who taught Leonard Shure, who taught a friend of mine and i believe Steven Mercurio

I still haven’t forgiven Carl for perpetuating the ‘Schwencke measure’ in his edition of the WTC. Plus he has a bad habit of spooging cheesy diminished 7th all over the place in an effort to create tension in places where it’s just not really needed. Mendelssohn this bad habit, too. It’s like some chef who decides, well if a 7 layer chocolate cake is good, then I’m going to make a 17 layer chocolate cake, but the result is just a mess - a big pile of frosting.
