Trump wants to remove the restrictions on selling across state lines, allow for cheaper premiums. Trump said that this won’t help everyone, and for those that it doesn’t will still need healthcare.
The problem is these restrictions are not imposed by Federal law, they are imposed by States. A Federal law would be yet another usurpation of States rights, and would impose certain mandatory coverage requirements on insurance companies. Premiums in States with less stringent insurance requirements would sky rocket. Sound familiar.
In 2011, Georgia passed a law allowing the purchase of insurance from outside the state carriers. No outside insurance carrier has even signed up to sell in Georgia.
