What’s with these names of winter storms in recent years? This is storm Jonas??? When did we start naming snowstorms and blizzards as if they were hurricanes????

Soon we’ll be naming fogs.

The whole naming thing is just something else to make the prima donna weather people seem important when they jump around pointing to their electronic maps.

Weather is just———weather.

.

I keep hearing about this historic storm and I wonder if anyone remembers snowmageddon a few years ago...back to back blizzards! What’s going to equal that?!

Someone on FR said it was to get government disaster relief.

This was done for a reason.
WC was purchased by NBCU which is Comcast.
Their mission added scope to promote the climate change meme.

And it’s working.
I’ve seen posts from idiot youts with things like “they had to start naming winter storms because they are so much more intense than ever before”

Calm down. The rule is, you can only equate weather to climate alchemy when the weather is hot. If you joke about several feet of global warming, you will be reminded that weather is not climate.

I think it makes it easier for state and local governments to declare a state of emergency ... and then go and beg the Federal government for emergency disaster relief. “Winter storm Jonah” sounds so much more serious than “a heavy late January snowfall.”

This is going to be the most massive, intense, severe, huge, devastating snow storm since... last Winter.

Naming of winter storms started by in 2011 by the Weather Channel.

Winter storm naming in the United States
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_storm_naming_in_the_United_States

Winter storm naming in the United States has been used by The Weather Channel (TWC) since 2011, when the cable network informally used the previously-coined name “Snowtober” for a 2011 Halloween nor’easter.[1][2][3][4] In November 2012, TWC began systematically naming winter storms, starting with the November 2012 nor’easter it named “Winter Storm Athena.”[5] TWC compiled a list of winter storm names for the 2012–13 winter season. It would only name those storms that are “disruptive” to people, said Bryan Norcross, a TWC senior director.[6] TWC’s decision was met with criticism from other weather forecasters, who called the practice self-serving and potentially confusing to the public.

No, it’s racist.

Snow is white.

White power - covering the land like a stifling blanket.

Making black tires slip.

On purpose...

It is just a normal winter storm. I think this has happened before.
