Speaking at a rally today for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin suggested that her son Track, who was arrested this week for a domestic violence incident, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.
"I guess it's kind of an elephant in the room, because my own family -- going through what we're going through today," Palin said at the event in Oklahoma alluding to Track's arrest. "My son, a combat vet, having served in a Stryker Brigade for you all, America in the war zone; but my son, like so many others, they came back a bit different."
She added, "I can certainly relate with other families who feel these ramifications of some PTSD."
Track Palin, 26, was arrested Monday night in Wasilla, Alaska. An Iraq veteran who enlisted in the Army Sept. 11, 2007, Track Palin was charged with three misdemeanors, including assault, interference with the reporting of a domestic violence crime and weapons possession while intoxicated, according to Alaska court records.
He allegedly punched and kicked his girlfriend before she says she thought he might shoot himself, according to the criminal complaint.
It is unclear whether he has entered a plea, and a family lawyer did not respond to ABC News' requests for comment.
The former Alaska governor, who endorsed Trump Tuesday, also suggested that President Obama deserved some of the blame for the psychological condition of veterans.

I’m a Marine Corps “combat” vet—Beirut in 83. I place combat in paren’s because, well, let’s just say it wasn’t Stalingrad.
I must say, I’m getting a bit tired of the PTSD thing. I do not believe I’ve seen EVEN ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! single case of any vet getting in trouble anywhere at any time under any circumstances who was not suffering PTSD. Everything from overdue library books to murder is being blamed on PTSD.
I sure thought of PTSD when I heard of his incident
I didn’t sadly. I wish I did. I actually didn’t think much at all except he is an adult and Sarah had nothing to do with it. But the PTSD thing is real and hopefully now will get the appropriate help from the VA.
Maybe because we go to war with our hands tied and told that victory is not the goal.
The men in WWII went to war to kill the enemy at all costs and to win
Today soldiers need to worry if they shoot under the wrong circumstance they will be tried and convicted of murder....yeah, I wonder why they come back so effed up....
I can see where that is difficult to square when you saw buddies blown up around you or you have lost a limb or limbs and/or are paralyzed.
Where did Track serve?
I think it was Iraq but could have been Afghanistan but it was definitely one of those. I know not helpful at all.
What are the PTSD symptoms. I’m being serious here, because all I see is drunken brawling, wife-beating stuff. I’ve known a billion drunks who act the same way and whose only combat experience is opening imported beers which lack the twist top. My father was a prime example—his behavior sounds EXACTLY like Track’s.
My dad was a WWII vet and active in veterans organizations all his life, and he felt that the environment vets faced after WWII was a major factor in enabling them to rejoin civilian life with less PTSD (as it is now called). This changed dramatically after Viet Nam, and has gone downhill ever since. So I think you are exactly right in that the ills of modern society have added to the burden veterans must carry, and we all bear some responsibilty for that.
It is one issue that good people of all political persuasions ought to be able to agree on. We can fight like hell over whether to send troops in harms way, but anyone who serves should be treated with utmost respect and appreciation.
I have a friend who was an Army Ranger. He and one other buddy survived a direct hit to the vehicle they were in where everyone else died. He will not talk about the event. He has a quiet inner strength, and I still pray for him.
Thank you... The skeptic in me notices that 100%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% of vets in any trouble of any kind claim PTSD. Not 1% or 10% or 15%, but 100%. It’s getting absolutely ridiculous.
Just read an interesting bio about Audie Murphy online. He was the most decorated soldier during WW 11. Killed over 240 of the enemy. His bio said he suffered from PTSD (although it wasn’t named back then) his whole life thereafter, and was addicted to sleeping pills...couldn’t sleep without them.
He was with the Stryker brigade that liberated Mosul during the 2007 Surge.
No lets not dump on the vet. But the vet needs to take responsibility for his own actions. And mom needs to stop making excuses for her adult children.
If he hit a woman, he is a dirtbag and no one should be making excuses.
Will those sites tell me why no vet on earth can get a DUI that is not traced back to PTSD?
My favorite PTSD story involves a coworker’s husband. Three days after arriving in Iraq, his Humvee went over a mine. No deaths, no injuries either inside or outside the vehicle. He sits at home now on a PTSD claim on 100% disability. I believe that means he gets 100% pay, but not really sure.
His wife says the explosion “messed up his head.”
Well, my head is messed up by paying this guy to sit at home for the rest of his life.
Sounds kind of dump-y to me!
