You can have any color car you want, as long as it’s black.

Grammar order word and nothing means Fox to.

Consider the headline: Windows 10 will only work on newest PCs, says Microsoft

The story told in the article makes it clear that "Only Windows 10 will work on newest PCs". Win 10 will work on old processors, but Win 7 and 8 won't work on the new ones.

As long as the Linux kernel works, I’m good.

We’re getting stuck with word order confusion just like with run-on sentences and “different than” versus “different from”. Then again, speakers of English from the King James Bible era would probably wonder why we say “Here I am” versus “Here am I”.

Thank you. Going by the headline alone, I was wondering why they are always bugging me to upgrade to 10 if it won’t run in my older machine.

A friend of mine is an engineer at Intel. He told me a long time ago that when new chips are developed, they are designed for particular operating systems.

The new chips are designed for Windows 10.

My rig came with XP years ago and runs Win 10 perfectly. I guess it’s not “old.”

Yes. With Linux you have several hundred choices for a free operating system. At least one should work on any PC.

Here is a good source for Linux reviews and links to various distributions.

So, in the future, don't expect to be able to run Windows 7, for example, on the newest 6th Generation Intel Core "Skylake" processors that are shipping in systems today.

Interesting, I am posting this reply from an ASUS Z170-A running a 64 Bit Skylake core i7 6700K and 32 GB Balistix RAM all managed by Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit operating system.

Ya just gotta show that Skylake Processor who's boss.

That doesn't mean Micro$oft won't get Intel to lock their chips in the future, but it might make 'em harder to sell.

The headline is logically incorrect. It should be: “Windows versions less than Windows 10 will not run on future processors.”

Forced obsolescence. If we had a real DoJ anti-trust division, they might look into this vertical collusion.

I like AMD just fine.

Do they not tailor their designs to particular operating systems?

At least they’re honest about it, unlike Aapl.

I use Apple because it’s an OS my wife can use easily (she’s not tech-savvy). I personally prefer the customization of Android, but having an Apple device allows me to troubleshoot her problems quickly and easily.

That being said, ultimately Apple devices quit working properly, even though they’re “supported”. You replace the hardware out of sheer frustration since they don’t admit to obsolescence.

We were just talking tonight about when our 2.5 year-old Ipad will bomb, since it seems to be a long operating time for their hardware/software compatibility.

At least Microsoft is telling the user at onset that they’ll die, at some point, with use and software improvements.
