Microsoft wants to force you into their Cyber Ghetto in order to control everyone.

I bet A LOT of people will be moving off their platform.

Enterprise admins aren't in a hurry to adopt the newest OS because they don't care to be beta-testers for software companies.

If Windoze 10 was such a wonderful thing, M$ wouldn't feel a need to force it.

THE LAST Windows update you will need.

Watch AMD snicker at them and put out an advert about not needing a restrictive OS for their kit.

I have several old HP, off-lease business machines.

All Win7.

This old shit actually works well, it’s dirt cheap and it’s a match for my old crusty ass...lol

If I have to I can move everything to Linux... So I’m all set...bring it on.

Hell, if I absolutely had to I could do it all with a few Raspberry Pi’s.

I wish the Upgrade to Win10 thingie would leave me alone tho....pain in the ass.. :-/

this is strange since I just built a skylake (I7-6700 on Z170 motherboard) system two weeks ago for a client. He wanted win7 because it was required for some expensive device he was controlling with it. Everything works great.

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8.1, which sucks (crashes, hardware incompatibility, etc). My last two had 7, which worked great. Now I’m constantly getting messages to do the free Windows 10 update and wondering about the cons-whether it could be worse than 8? What are the downsides to 10?

Neighbor bought a little Dell desktop box with Win10 on it. Went over and got her wireless router working with it and got her email and stuff setup. Then she calls and said she’d bought a little printer, and her son couldn’t hook it up, so wanted me to do it. When all was said and done, installing the Win10 mandatory updates, getting the right drivers, compatibility settings, administrative rights, rebooting half a dozen times, etc., it was a couple of hours of screwing around. I think I’ll be doing a lot less support for my neighbors. That was too painful for such a minor thing.

Yes, but what will they be able to move *to*?

In effect, Exxon creates a “special”, much more expensive gasoline, that has an extra ingredient that does nothing, then persuades the car makers to only make cars that will run on gasoline that contains this ingredient.

The US government should immediately intervene to prevent this restraint of trade. Since Obama is ineffectual, however, it will likely take a lawsuit by a bunch of corporations against Microsoft, Intel, and AMD.

I converted my PC from 7 to 10 and was SHOCKED that it was completely seamless. Somebody on another forum told me since Ballmer is gone, they actually think about customer service now? Is that possible?

The only reason I haven’t gone to Windows 10, is that it is laced with spyware that cannot all be disabled. Most can, but Microsoft states some spyware it built in cannot be disabled.

Maybe. OTOH I've watched the internet turn into an analog of politics - a playground for thieves and rife with corruption. And like politics, the biggest infection vector seems to be promises of free shit.

Okay, ask yourself, what is the reason for ending support of Windows 7 and making new CPU’s only support Windows 10?. Money is the only reason I can think of.

Now, how is Windows 7 different from Windows 10 when it comes to making money for Microsoft?
If they end support, what does it matter if people continue to use Windows 7 instead of Windows 10? Once again, what difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10 that makes money for Microsoft?

The Microsoft Store. Windows 7 doesn’t have it. Windows 10 does. Every copy of Windows that has the Microsoft Store potentially makes money for Microsoft. Windows 7, without the Microsoft Store, doesn’t. If Microsoft can force all of those Windows 7 users into Windows 10, many will buy stuff from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10. The Microsoft Store icon is even pinned to the Taskbar and already in the Start Menu so uses can easily find it and use it when Windows 10 starts for the first time after an install.

Microsoft may have offered a piece of the store sales action to Intel, Dell, HP, etc. if they push Windows 10.

So, follow the money, right to the Microsoft Store. That must be the answer as to why Microsoft is pushing, even forcing, and giving away Windows 10 to users that don’t want it. Up-selling from the Microsoft Store.

The Apple Store and Google Store make a lot of money for those companies. Microsoft wants to do the same, but its Windows phone is a flop and loses Microsoft money on each one sold. All they have left to offer their Microsoft Store through is Windows 10. That’s got to be the reason for all the high pressure tactics to upgrade.
