I can tell you where most of the money did NOT go and that is to the troop! I think we got what, about 50 cents from every box and back then it was about $3.50 a box! The rest I was told went to the higher ups. You know I look back now and I really wish I had investigated it more! I mean “followed the money” as they say. Those girls needed more money in the troop and not going to Planned parenthood that is for damn sure!

Oh and by the way everyone, GSA is raising the rates of the cookies this year!!

The GSUSA web site has the facts and it is part of the cookie training given to every leader

Of a $4 box of cookies the troops get $.50 up to about $.80 a box depending on incentives. Higher sellers get more profit. Troops that register early in the year get an extra $.05 per box. Troops that opt out of “ prizes” get more money

Next, about $2.50 per box goes to the baker

The remainder goes to Councils, though sometimes they share a few cents a box with ServiceUnit which are the troop communities ( volunteers)

The Council’s have to pay staff, run an office, run training and other programs, pay insurance, and maintain the camps in their Council- we have 4 camps for 25,000 girls

So there Ya Go. GS cookies keep the membership going because it is the only funds the little ones earn to pay for their meetings, uniforms, books, badges, and camping trips ... I think national keeps their fingers out of it so they don’t have to really support the girls except from a distance with keeping up the brand, selling uniforms books and merchandise and chasing donors

Still and all a lot of leaders carry our troops out of our own pockets
