I remember a story about a nearby small scale coal plant closing at the end of 2015, due to new regulations they couldn’t meet. I assume dozens of such small plants closed down.

Some are not that small. The EPA is messing with electrical generation reserve capacity. And not in a good way.

So we close coal fired plants, then refuse to allow reliable sources of power to be built like nuclear or gas and instead build a solar farm in New England where their is very little sun in the winter. Sounds like a plan to me. /s

Many coal fired plants were told to switch to nat gas if possible or the regs against coal use would bk them. They are shutting down as quick as they can. When oil and nat gas come back folks will be begging for the coal to come back on line, but it won’t be possible.
