Cruz didn't say that Trump would do random searches. That was a MSM headline writer who wrote that.
Trump was flat out asked on ~July 24th what he would do with the "11 million here". Trump only answered that he would deport the criminals, and the others, he would try to work something out based on merit.
Then on ~July 27th, Trump finally said that he would deport them all. But he also said he wanted to expedite them back, and then maybe later, he would consider citizenship.
