CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Donald Trump, the billionaire who until now hasn't had to spend much of his own money to run for president, has made the influence of money in politics a theme of his campaign. He has suggested his Republican rivals are "puppets" for seeking the support of GOP donors like the Koch brothers. And he has defended his own contributions to both Republican and Democratic politicians as the cost of doing business in a world in which officeholders can be bought and paid for.
Here in Iowa Saturday, Trump made his most blunt condemnation yet of what he says is the corrupting influence of money in politics. As a businessman, Trump explained, "I've got to give to them, because when I want something, I get it. When I call, they kiss my ass." And that includes, he said, the Republicans who are running against Trump in the GOP presidential race.
"These politicians, they're so bad," Trump told a full house at the historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake:
You know, it's interesting. I was looking at the ones I'm running against. I've contributed to most of them - can you believe it? I've contributed to most of them. And one of them said, No, I don't think you've contributed to me. They found out I did. I contribute to everybody. I've given to Democrats. I've given to Hillary. I've given to everybody, because that was my job. I've got to give to them. because when I want something I get it. When I call, they kiss my ass. It's true. They kiss my ass. It's true.
Real presidential material there.

I wonder how many donor asses Cruz and the others need to pucker up to on a daily basis to earn their campaign money....
I would certainly brag about that. /s
I guess he’s honest, if nothing else.
Keepin’ it classy.
Over / under until he drops the F bomb.
Number is 21 days.
I’ll take the under.
So, I guess the question is: Who is worse, the buyer or the one who is bought.
If you are politically correct, political incorrectness hurts.
If the truth disturbs you, truth hurts.
What Trump said here is both politically incorrect and truthful.
How does it feel?
Trump is making a factual statement about those who call him. It is a true statement. It is about the caller, not about Trump.
Trump is not unique. I used to hang around the office of the late Illinois millionaire Jack Roeser. It was known that he was anti-corruption and would neither buy nor sell politicians despite his intense involvement in politics.
Both Republicans and Democrats, establishment and anti-establishment would call him and kiss his rear anyway. I’d be there when they’d call him and hear the call. Then those same callers would appear in the media, talk radio, etc and deny that they called him.
I suspect it happens to almost all rich people.
So the dems Trump has been funneling money to have been doing Trumps bidding.
No wonder everything the dems touch is so screwed up.
If he gives the money for that reason, takes the call, asks for favors, etc,, it is at least half about him.
“So, I guess the question is: Who is worse, the buyer or the one who is bought.”
Yeah, kinda like a “John” looking down on a prostitute’s morals.
Right the one not loyal to their constituents but who were loyal to Trump are SO much more presidential (I'm still a Cruz guy who would not have a problem voting for Trump in the general)
Brilliant.+1
Yes we are.
"Brilliant, just absolutely brilliant. And conservative through and through. Trustworthy, strong, confident, leader, and somebody in whom you can totally depend." ~Rush Limbaugh on Ted Cruz
yesterday’s news. try and keep up.
I can not support Cruz because he, as all other politicians, owe their donors something in exchange for their money, Cruz will have to pay back sooner or later. That’s the truth. You simply can’t hide from that fact. He brings None to little cross over voters.
I believe Trump will never run a second term. Perhaps, by then, Cruz would have a better chance.
