I know some smart database admins, but they usually don’t know squat about the nuts and bolts of tech. Usually, when it’s Microsoft fanboys, it’s a reaction to fears about obsolescence of Microsoft SQL Server versus MySQL/Oracle.
I’ve hit the skids of skillset obsolescence before. The whole “denial-anger-bargaining-etc” thing comes into play really quick.
