Among Michigan's 10 million residents, almost a half-million had a concealed pistol license as of Dec. 1, according to data collected by the Michigan State Police.

This database provides the number of active permits for all 83 counties, as well as the percentage of permits in relation to the adult population, age 21 and older. Under Michigan law, 21 is the minimum age for a concealed pistol license.

Click on "details" for the number of permits issued annually over a five-year period between 2009-10 to 2013-14. (The annual numbers are based on reports that each cover a 12-month period from July to June.)

To compare all counties, click on "all counties" when doing the search. To compare the counties by CPL rate based on population, click on that column heading. Click once for a top-to-bottom sort; click twice for a bottom-to-top sort.

Searchable database at the site. Looks like 7 or 8 percent is pretty common by county. Wayne county shows some 91,000 permits at 7 percent of the adult population.

Looks like folks in the most sparsely populated counties are most heavily armed. Schoolcraft county shows 643 permits at 10% of adult population.

These records should not be public domain IMO. I don’t see the benefit to it other than as a tool for leftists and the government to use against the gun owners for intimidation / harassment, confiscation or activism.

Uh, yeah, in a more perfect universe I'd agree with you.

But...here in Realville, getting caught concealing a pistol without a CPL will more than likely get you a felony conviction and some prison time. Unless you like getting bucked from behind in the big house, I'd suggest the CPL.

In Michistan you have to register your pistol when purchased. It’s the law.
