What they were doing there is speculation. The official story is that they were purchasing remnants of Qadaffi’s arsenal.
Now the Russians think one thing, and have successfully instilled their theory, and the Turks instilled another theory, and the left and right have divergent theories, but what is reality is still unknown.
It would be expected before any operation to bind all operatives/employees/contractors with nondisclosure docs. It’s part of the job... otherwise you get no job.
“Dude, that was like, three years ago.” /s
There was some type of nondisclosure requirement they agreed to BEFORE being deployed that they would have to be released from before anyone can sing... and this original one would not have been “under duress.” Do you think anyone would be assigned to a classified position in a covert operation without such requirements beforehand?
They weren’t “working on the side of evil.” The fact is you have no idea what they were doing, it’s all speculation, much of it coming from the Russian and Iranian press. The official job they were employed on was collecting SAMs from the various Libyan militias, weapons stolen from Qadaffi’s arsenals.
Because of compartmentalization they wouldn’t know or be involved in what happened to what they collected beyond loading it up to be shipped out, save possibly Stevens.
Pants on fire alert.
Where are the 40 or so who were evacuated?
What tactics were used to silence these voices who have one of the most compelling stories of recent history to tell?
Will the lid finally blow sometime after January of Two Thousand and Seventeen?
Viewed even from here, my dimly lit perch in the foothills of the Spine of the Continent, these questions continue to fester.
