The nation bought the land - there was no state of Oregon or any other state out here back then. I am a huge 10th amendment fan and I have repeatedly said the states and local communities (I live here) should have more say over the countless miles of Federal land out here to promote economic activity that benefits not just the people who live here, but the nation as a whole. However, the way I think does NOT give me the right to violate the law for my own benefit when it impacts land owned by the nation as a whole.
Difficult issue? Certainly. The legal and correct way to change it is for representatives in these states to lobby for change. I don’t think that will happen nor do I think the majority of Oregonians would support (as I said above) any such notion.
You seem to be under the illusion that the federal government circa 2016 is a rational enterprise... Interesting.
