Ronald Kessler reporting from Washington, D.C. , The Republican Party will continue to lose presidential elections if it comes across as mean-spirited and unwelcoming toward people of color, Donald Trump tells Newsmax.
Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.
"Republicans didn't have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians," the billionaire developer says.
"The Democrats didn't have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren't mean-spirited about it," Trump says. "They didn't know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind."
Romney's solution of "self deportation" for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.
"He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal," Trump says. It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote," Trump notes. "He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country."
The GOP has to develop a comprehensive policy "to take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country," Trump says.

“”Truth is NOT Rhetoric” - Sen. Ted Cruz (The obvious conservative choice for POTUS”
A conservative, (and I agree that Cruz is more conservative in many ways than Trump) stands ZERO chance of getting elected. We absolutely KNOW Trump will build the wall and send them home. Cruz is unlikely to do it.
Taking down Trump isn't going to help Cruz. The road to Cleveland goes through Trump. He has home-field advantage locked up throughout the RNC playoffs.
Actually, when the sudden Syrian immigration problem began, in Europe...MANY folks - even here on FR - were all for helping them, for humanitarian reasons.
Once pics started getting out (thanks to very astute FReepers, I might add), we realized that these weren’t really ‘refugees’....that they were young, healthy, well dressed muslim MEN.
Once that news got out, Trump - as many here, and around the world did - changed his tune/support of these faux ‘refugees’.
A few anti-Trump (pro-Hellary??) bots like to post and repost Trump’s original support of these ‘refugees’. It’s been discussed and explained, but that doesn’t stop them.
Cruz has never waffled on the issue. There has been an effort to distort the intention of his 2013 amendments to the Gang of 8 bill, but Jeff Sessions as well as Cruz himself, has said that was a parliamentary tactic to kill the bill.
Cruz was calling for a wall when he was running for the Senate in 2011. He is for enforcing our immigration laws. I trust him to do what he says he’ll do.
Reagan was 69 when he became president and he was one of the greatest
Trump is no Reagan.
This change in position is political expediency. The Art of the Deal.
******
The next ^^ sentence was in reference to Trump.
What ‘changed position’ was Trump being politically expedient about?
Worse- the article is from November 2012, over 3 years old.
Reagan was 69 when he became president and he was one of the greatest
Amen!! The Hellary harpers forget that :)
This article is from 2012 and quotes Mr. Trump verbatim. This was his position in 2012, a position he did not have to back up with a vote or he would not be running for President on the opposite position now.
___________________________________________________________
It was not his position. They were comments made in an interview when he was not a candidate.
His position was printed in his book published in 2011 where he said the same things he is saying now.
He went from calling Romney mean for suggesting self deportation and criticizing the Republican party of being mean to Hispanics, to his current position of head ‘em up and move ‘em out.
If he had been in a position to vote on his 2012 stance, he would not be in the Presidential race now.
Thanks for injecting the dose of reality ;-)
I’ve got the 2011 version before it was revised.
Post it.
Post what?
Iâve got the 2011 version before it was revised.

I gave the book to my daughter who is flying to Holland as we speak. I would not post it without exact quotes.
