I don’t like Windows 10. One thing I really hate is I can’t backtrack more than one page at a time. With Windows 7 I could right click on the back arrow and select which page to go back to. Now, when I right click, all I get is a box that says “Back”. Very frustrating when I want to back up five pages.

i switched to Ubuntu as well and have had no problems. my laptop still has windows and will soon be upgraded to Ubuntu. so there microsoft.

Windows 10 is forcing people into being tracked, into accepting ‘phone home’ policies etc- it’s so bad that even if you go through all the security panels and clicking off the phone home security thingies, and even if you hack your registry to shut certain settings off, it STILL phones home against your will.
You are also forced into accepting all updates- there is no logner a choice to avoid certain updates, so if there is a bad update which fubars people’s computers, you’re stuck getting it-
Also, be prepared to have to rebuy some software and even hardware that will not work with windows 10

download and install ‘strokeit’ (Yeah bad name- great app though) which is a mouse gesture program
I have it set up to go back through pages with just a really quick mouse gesture ‘drag mouse left’ and can go back though 20 pages in about 2 seconds and I don’t have to move mouse up to back button- I close pages by ‘drag down/right’ minimize etc open new pages, open thigns like calculator simply by drawing a ‘C’ with the mouse- no more menu searching- etc
Very handy utility, but a little hard to configure- There are other easier mouse gesture programs out there though- but if you’re good at figuring out programs- then strokeit is great-
you would be much further ahead buying a new computer with windows 7 or 8 and networking it to your windows 10 computer

Yes, but don’t aks her- TELL her you are going and then afterwards you’re going to busters put your foot down if she objects, and drag her kicking and screaming if necessary to the movie- or better yet, wait until a day she has planned for soemthign she wants to do and take her to the movie instead

I consult all over the world for engineering and aviation. Can’t really network a cloud very easy.
But the times are changing and the writing on the wall says that I’ll be getting upgrades eventually.
In the mean time I’ll be continuing windows 7 as long as possible. My shop already has a dozen win 7 and XP laptops in backup because I have very expensive machinery that the machinery manufacturers won’t support with the new OS.
You’ve already made up your mind.
Stop looking for validation from us to protect you from your own devices.
If you have an existing stable and working Windows 7 or 8.1 system, don’t upgrade to Windows 10. I’ve only seen the Win 10 install/upgrade be worthwhile on new systems or hopelessly bollixed Win 8 systems.
The new Star Wars movie is a action/adventure magical fantasy chick flick. If your wife likes Harry Potter or Hunger Games movies, she’ll like this one.

How about, “If your wife thinks the J. J. Abrams reboots of the Star Trek franchise are the greatest Star Trek movies ever made, she’ll love this one. If she hated Star Trek Into Darkness, she’ll hate this one even more.”
Oh I see- I thought you meant your home computer forced you to upgrade your own software at that price-
I haven’t seen the new Star Wars movie but I did see “The Big Short” today and it was worth the money. Very entertaining, and no cheap shots at Republicans or George W. Bush for the housing market bubble and crash (I was surprised by that).
I tried Win10 on a separate hard drive. Didn’t care for it. Replaced the hard drive with one having Win7.
Win7 is tolerable, now that I have gotten used to it. I only lost a laser printer (no driver was ever created for Win7-64bit) and a few software programs. I did jerry-rig a few other programs and got them to partially work under Win7. I know they would never work under Win10.
I plan to stay with Win7 as long as I can.
Even the Win10 user interface is crappy. If they ever return the classic UI, I will reconsider. Until then, that Win10 hard drive is a door stop.

As for Star Wars. I didn’t see the first one until about 10 years after its release. It was okay but just didn’t appeal to me. I never saw any of the other sequeals. I might watch the new one when it hits Netflix or HBO or STARZ or Amazon Prime.

Win10 is fine. I have it on my laptop and no issues, even upgrading from Win81.
That said, I still have Win7 on my desktop with 32gb running virtual machines.
If you do decide to upgrade to Win10, make an image backup file of your existing OS partition.
That way, if you don’t like Win10, you can re-image the OS partition and return to your current Win and program files.
There are numerous Imaging programs available. I don’t like the one that comes with Windows, because the restoration does not recognize external USB where I store my imaged files.
I currently use the free-for-home-use Macrium Reflect. It has saved me a few times. It also recognizes the USB hard drives.
