The disparity in ideology won’t make so much difference as one might expect.
I don’t think Trump needs Bernie’s supporters to win the primary but in the general election if they remember what the Clinton campaign did to them, hmm.
Yup.
What’s so cool about this is that Cruz has positioned himself as Trump’s successor, should Trump stumble.
So, in effect, Cruz has made himself the perfect person to grab Bernie Sander’s voters.
Tell us, Ms. Conway, we need to doubt Cruz and Trump now, don’t we?
Cruz has aligned himself with Trump to catch his voters, so, really, Cruz is just as likely to now get Sander’s votes, unless Cruz is lying on his Trump-like positions, which is not unlikely.
Not all of Bernie Sanders’ support is braindead academy types. He has some supporters who are more “economic nationalist” (anti-free trade, anti-II, etc.) even though they’d also be nutcases on social issues. There’s some talk of them crossing over if Hillary gets the Dem nom.
There may be some crossover appeal but it won’t manifest itself in Sanders supporters voting for Trump in large numbers, or even medium numbers.
Now there is the rub, Social Issues. Cruz is a social conservative to his very bones, while Trump is to the left of the whole GOP field on the social issues. A Sanders voter would rather cut off their right hand before voting for Cruz, because of the social issues.
OK, that makes sense. I was looking at it/thinking about ‘nationalist’ from a patriotic perspective’.
Actually your logic is flawed....makes no sense. Trump’s demeanor and his dalliances with big government destroy your attempted analogy.
which is why I said that Conway over stated the issue.....but some Freepers understated it by saying there’s nothing to it at all. The truth IMO is somewhere in between.
I actually do some soft consulting for this group...PAC...and I would not support those statements.
Yeah, I ain't seeing this either. I guess as a political person you look at all possibilities, but most keep their mouth shut on the outrageous ones. This is silly.
The rest of them would be stymied by the Agencies, primarily the EPA which is where most of the effective power is now centered.
Willy nilly we now have a Dictatorship. The next President will begin his term as a Dictator whoever he might be. Of course this is all if, could and might but Trump is the only one who has the force and, yes, guile, to bring it off. Would he? Well a Napoleon is necessary at this moment. The risk is always if you vote in that Napoleon he might just turn out to be Napoleon.
Communists switch to supporting a staunch Capitalist?
Your comment is right on.
Bernie Sanders strongly opposes the TPP. I know several very liberal Democrats who regard job outsourcing as the most critical issue.
They were considering voting for Trump on this basis alone. I am now hearing from them that they like Trump’s position on the Syrian refugees too.
Maybe Sanders’ blue collar supporters (if any) but not his socialist supporters. His socialist supporters will go to She who can not be named or third party.
Many more of the âunaffiliatedâ voting age population, some of whom have not voted in years, or NEVER voted, are sufficiently attracted so that now they have or are planning to register to vote this next November. And as noted, even a few disaffected Democrats may be willing to cross over and pull the lever for The Donald.
This is one of many reasons I do not like Trump. When was the last time we heard exactly what you posted regarding a presidential candidate? Obama.
You are describing the lowest of the low information voters supporting a candidate, not on the basis of the candidate’s platform, but merely on the cult of personality.
I have been engaged in a deep, personal struggle as to whether or not I would support Trump should he run in the general. He would be another life-long leftist running against another life-long leftist. Not much of a choice, in my opinion.
The one and only redeeming quality he might have would be the destruction of the Republican party as we know it. Even that is not a given but it is the last straw left to grasp at.
The overwhelming passage of the budget bill has convinced me that all is lost with the Republican Party. It was long ago infiltrated by leftists and is now dominated by them. It is not a conservative party. It is simply the Democrat Party with another name.
In Trump’s recent comments regarding the “little bit of a maniac” Cruz, he differentiated himself from Cruz by saying he could work with Democrats and Republicans whereas Cruz could not. In that case, Trump brings nothing to the table. Nothing.
Democrats and Republicans work together just fine to pass leftist legislation as it is.
If Cruz does not win the nomination my only hope is that Trump runs 3rd party and actually makes the GOP go the way of the Whigs.
That is not likely to happen either.
Kellyanne is a Cruz person making money with the PAC from his biggest donor.
Hmmm
