That all happened in the 1610-1620 timeframe, long after Columbus’ voyage in 1492. Squanto’s story is a fascinating one. Keep in mind many ships were fishing and trading along the coast before permanent settlements were established, creating opportunities like what happened to Squanto.

Sounds like folks here haven’t read Barry Fell’s book America B.C., or similar stuff. There is a lot of, naturally controversial, evidence for Roman and other trade, with America in ancient times. Caches of Roman coins, remains of trading posts and so forth. I’m agnostic on it, but it is plausible given their capabilities.

Yep. I don’t really have a dog in the fight, either. I find it interesting. That’s all. I am really impressed with what those explorers were able to accomplish with the equipment they had.
