"Roman “steel” used in armor was case hardened iron ( packing organic plant materials in with the the iron when beat into plates). If you want to call that steel then fine."

I call Roman "steel" an alloy of iron and carbon, which is the definition of steel.

That's nice but they didn't have that technology. But by all means post some references to that. Every historian I know of considers Rome an iron age empire ( the republic was more bronze age ) but maybe you know better than ALL OF THEM.

The way I understand it the the iron ages low carbon content weapons were NOT superior to bronze age weapons. It is just iron was more plentiful an ALMOST as good as bronze. Bronze was expensive, still is. Now OTH high carbon steel is way better the bronze.
