Las Vegas - James Dobson, founder of the Christian group Focus on the Family and one of the nation's most influential evangelicals, will endorse Ted Cruz for president today, according to sources briefed on the announcement.
It will represent the latest in a series of endorsements for Cruz from prominent conservative leaders, dozens of whom met secretly last week and voted to coalesce their forces behind the Texas senator. The plan, as decided by the Tony Perkins-led group, is to slowly roll out endorsements from prominent conservative leaders individually to create a perception of the "movement" uniting behind Cruz.
Dobson, sources say, has long been an outspoken voice on Cruz's behalf, arguing in previous private gatherings that Marco Rubio was not sufficiently conservative to earn the group's support.
I also predicted that a political Justin Beiber would appear on the scene and FReepers would immediately betray Cruz.
Not blaming Cruz for the deception. But these men (and possibly women) of the cloth.
Not meaningless to those for whom it’s intended.
Big mistake. Cruz cannot win the general. Conservatives would be better suited with Trump.
I was an admirer of James Dobson for many years, but I soured on him in 2008 when he went out of his way to trash Fred Thompson, even questioning whether he was a Christian. (This after Fred had received the endorsement of National Right-to-Life!)
because Trump will have support from the mushy middle? Where have I heard that before?
In a nation of mostly sane Christians Ted would be #1 with no rival. America is not that nation anymore. I’m going with the semi-conservative, populist Trump because I believe he has the best chance to win in 2016 with crossover voters.
Trump, the piece of garbage who said Pam Geller should stop picking on muslims and called her an obnoxious loudmouth who said she inspired a terrorist attack on her because she likes the attention?
Except the people who have had respect for Dr. Dobson and have listened to his program regularly. Those people might care.
I didn’t say most voters but many of the so-called Evangelical community stayed home last election because of Romney’s liberalism and false faith.
This is good. I have always respected Dr. Dobson’s opinions. Well...except when he said that parents should paddle 18-month-old babies.
I actually agree with Jim.
Here is an example:
The entire National GOP drive in Colorado has focused on Colorado Springs because of Dobson.
Thus, the rest of the State, even though fairly Conservative got completely ignored.
The RATS aggressively moved their political machine into much of the Front Range and flipped the State to Blue.
One of the few remaining Conservative cities, Loveland is now considered part of the Boulder voting district.
Dobson knows little about Politics and is more interested in selling books.
This is going to be popcorn time when the GOPe decides that the only way they can stop Cruz is to reluctantly back Trump.
Your sensitivity is misplaced. Pam Geller has recently praised Trump’s policies toward Muslims.
Within the evangelical community, Dr. Dobson's voice still carries weight. His endorsement is a blow to Santorum and Huckabee, but they may actually be running for a Cabinet position. Dobson will not help Cruz in the general election, but the Texas senator is running for the Republican nomination. His main opponent is Donald Trump, who is a PINO (Protestant in name only), twice divorced and an advocate, until recently, of abortion on demand. Cruz's evangelical bona fides are strong; he speaks their language fluently. Trump is as clueless as any New Yorker is on the Southern/Lower Midwestern evangelical world, except for the minuscule number of evangelicals locally.
If and when Santorum, Huckabee, and Carson drop out, Cruz will likely inherit most of their votes, important in the case of Carson, less so for the other few. To have a chance to win, Cruz must win in his home state and the rest of the South, plus states like Kansas and Colorado. Being the main choice of evangelicals will be a great help.
“Kiss of death.”
Yep. Dobson’s last two endorsements:
- Santorum
- Huckabee
Teddy, should not have answered his phone.
Yes, Geller did endorse Cruz back in May. But let’s knock off the *poor Pam was attacked by mean Donald* nonsense.
She is very strong and can accommodate Donald. Geller supports Trump’s Muslim policy.
Sure, which is why Trump fans say it's fine that he's been on the left his entire life; conservatism doesn't even exist; abortion isn't a big deal; Obamacare's a good thing; Bill Clinton was a good president, etc.
Delude yourself if you want, but there's no way I'll ever cast a vote for Trump.
My inlaws were leaning toward Trump (kind of), but they heard Cruz speak at a church in South Carolina, and they’re all in for him.
