In the past I have not watched The Voice, but took a slight interest this year when one of the contestants expressed an interest in the music career of Ricky Skaggs. I'm kinda outing myself in this forum that is most anonymous, but Ricky is my first cousin. His father and my dad were brothers. A third brother, Okel, died as a young man in the battle for Guadalcanal - WWII.
I had no idea the season final for The Voice was on last night when my wife yelled upstairs to let me know Ricky was on. The 4 minute performance was awesome. He and Emily Ann Roberts performed together along with The Voice's house band as they sang/played Country Boy (Girl for her). Ricky was impressive with his speed but he played guitar while his best instrument is the mandolin.
I'm posting this to FR because of another aspect. If you look closely on his guitar strap, it says, "LIFE". I've talked extensively with Ricky about these types of topics, and I know Ricky is strongly Pro-Life and is an influential Christian man in a business that needs more of his example. Enjoy the performance from last night here.
By the way, the young lady, Emily Ann Roberts finished an impressive and gracious second.
Love Ricky Skaggs.

was your uncle who died at Guadacanal a Marine? I knew a man who was badly wounded there and lived to be late 80s.A jap grenade went off in front of him while the fight for Henderson field was raging. He was in the Raiders. eventually was a pharmacist in my town. Solid, good man.
I donât think youâll find Ricky performing on The View, but that would be something to see.
Great flat picking from Ricky
Your title says The View.
Have lot of faves.
Someone stole my Ricky Skaggs so that tell ya something right there..
Tony Rice is the one that floors me on this stuff.
I have been listening to this stuff since before the birth of rock and roll.

It IS Rock and Roll
I always liked Bruce Hornsby with Ricky Skaggs. Hornsby used to play keyboards for several Grateful Dead tours. Just an artist that loves performing.

I like Ricky and I like bluegrass. But I couldn’t hear any sign of a banjo during that performance. So why was it billed as bluegrass?
Gotta love Jerry Garcia for Americana when the band wasn’t stoned, Old or in the way.
RIP
Oh my gosh, did i say that? Thanks for catching.
Admins, please change the title to “The Voice” instead of “The View”.
Yep - stupid of me. I asked mods to edit. Thanks.
Ooh you stepped in that and Nobody cares LOL

I watched it last night. It. Was. Fan. TASTIC!!!! Emily Ann was not one of my favorites this season (by a long shot), but I thought that performance was perhaps the best of the entire season, by any contestant, and that was 99% due to your cousin’s incredible picking and energy! It was definitely the surprise of the night! I remember thinking that most of the kids in the audience and watching at home were probably dumbfounded at how awesome “country” music could sound. And The Voice’s coaches seemed so appreciative of the skill that both Emily Ann and Mr. Skaggs displayed, especially Pharrell...I think he was really blown away and totally into the performance. Emily Ann and Ricky absolutely left it all on the table, which is what those constants are always coached to do. It was spectacular.
Thanks for letting us know about your cool connection, tang-soo!
