I live just a little south of the border but was born and raised in Buffalo and have met plenty of Canucks who think that 60 is too hot.

You sell refrigerators and freezers up there to keep the ice cream warm. No kidding.
I work outside in a t shirt and light long sleeve shirt (to protect my arms from splinters) when it is in the low twenties as long as the wind isn’t blowing.
I love it, too. There’s a sweetspot, maybe around -10F or -15F (if there’s an expert out there, I’d like to meet you and buy you a drink), where your beer freezes along the inside of the bottle when you take a “sip.” Pure Heaven.
I grew up in Montana. the coldest I have experienced is
-45 degrees..... when it gets that cold it hurts to breath. your snot from your nose freezes to your face and it is so cold there is no moisture the air.

That’s because 60 is too hot if you are properly acclimatized for northern climes. This December has been insanely warm. It’s 36 (F) right now, and probably reached over 40 today. While I was in short sleeves, I did throw on a light fleece jacket a couple of times when I went out to keep my wife happy, but I was really overheating in it. I have a really bad habit of wearing something to work because my wife is cold, but not remembering to wear it home, because I’m not cold.
Enough of the Oregonian is still in me, however, that I won’t swim if it isn’t at least 70. Some of the natives are nuts. At least wait until all of the ice in the lake is melted so that you won’t cut your head on it when you dive in.
Spent the weekend once (35+ years ago) at our cabin in Northern Minnesota and it got to -43. The cabin wasn’t insulated at the time. Electric blankets and a pot-belly stove did nothing it seemed. Although we were able to sleep a bit. The frost was almost to the ceiling when we got up!
Now that it is insulated (and small) that pot belly stove can get it too hot!

It is great being able to chill stuff on the back porch, but remember that if you do it with hard liquor, don’t do it for too long—because it has a much lower freezing point, it can either do serious damage or even kill you if left out and then consumed in really low temperatures.
Tell your brother that I am well past 65. I deliberately retired to to this place BECAUSE it gets colder than a well diggers ass up here in the winter.
KEEPS THE RIFF-RAFF out.
Tell him to split wood in a good pair of boots, but buck nekked in the winter; it helps to keep you warm but not sweaty.
Yeah; I’m laughing, but I have done that crazy crap, keeps me young (at least in mind and spirit).
I never thought of that but it sure makes sense.
You could freeze the inside of whatever the sub zero liquor came in contact with. Not a good scenario.
Thanks for the tip, but I keep the hard stuff at room temp. Except for the Stoli 100 proof, I can’t get it cold enough. ;)

I am pretty sure he remembered accurately; 60 and 80 degree temperature swings are real common here where I live.
Mostly in September and October, but sometimes in March and April.
Haven’t had a 100 degree swing yet, but I am just waiting for it to happen.
I am somewhat further south than Montana, but I am sure it could happen.

Dad was a Railroader, lived in a converted boxcar, VIDAL JUNCTION!, had to travel 2 hours just to get to a school.
Where was school Blythe or Needles?
