Marjorie Lord, best known for playing Kathy âClancyâ Williams opposite Danny Thomas on the 1950s and 60s sitcom Make Room For Daddy and later the revival Make Room For Granddaddy died November 28 from natural causes, the LA Times reported. She was 97.
Lord made the jump to television in the 1950s and would join Make Room For Daddy, later renamed The Danny Thomas Show, during the showâs fourth season, in 1957. She played the second wife of Danny Thomasâ character, staying with the show until it was canceled in 1964. She returned along with the rest of the cast for Make Room For Granddaddy, which aired in 1970 and 1971.
She was married three times: to John Archer from 1941â1955, Randolph Hale from 1958â1974, and Harry Volk from 1976 until his death in 2000. Among her survivors is her daughter, Oscar-nominated actress Anne Archer. She also published her memoir, A Dance and a Hug, in 2004.

***She played the second wife of Danny Thomas***
When we got our first TV back in 1956, we watched that show.
Then when we saw it again we all said “Who is THAT woman?” as she was the new face.
For years I wondered if I remembered seeing an earlier wife for that show.
The teen age daughter(Sherry Jackson) also went into movies. I saw a “spread” of her in Playboy for THE European version of an American movie GUNN.
She had a great “b-movie” career, being leading lady in things ranging from one of the old Basil Rathbone “Sherlock Holmes” films, to being a lady outlaw in a Tim Holt western, to the heroine in the “Smilin’ Jack” serial, based on the comic strip. She was even in a Bomba The Jungle Boy film. Then, on tv, she hit most of the early-day filmed series, appearing in episodes of “Racket Squad,” “Big Town,” “China Smith,” “Kit Carson” and such. All before she found her way to the Danny Thomas Show.
I met her one time, and asked her about working with the comedy-team Wheeler and Woolsey, as she appeared as ingenue in their two last films in 1937. She seemed to wince a bit, which made me think she wasn’t all that keen to be remembered for something THAT far back.
“Baroque? But I didn`t break it!”
Amen
When thing were normal.
I love Wheeler and Woolsey. They do go way back.
Actually, I like Wheeler and Woolsey also. At a film festival, I even got to meet their main leading lady, Dorothy Lee, who was in most of their films, starting at the very beginning in 1929.
She was also the gold-digging fiancé in the original Disney movie “The Parent Trap.” What the Hayley Mills twins did to her was hilarious!
The wacky Middle Easterner in the White House doesn't do it for you?
He was a Christian.
Hans Conried was a great character. Did a lot of voice work too. He died much too young.
I remember him most from the old TV show "Fractured Flickers" ... sort of an early rough version of MST3000.
The daughter Anne Archer is a scientology cult member.
May the angels sing her home.
Jean Hagen, of Singin’ In The Rain fame (”An I Caaan’t staand ‘em”) played first wife.
Yes, I know. I remember her. She died quite young. An I looooooved ‘er.
My brother - a comedy writer - is a big fan of Wheeler and Wolsey. I used to tape them for him off a NYC station and ship the movies out to him in LA. I never really watched them but they have lots of knowledgeable comedy fans.
RIP.
I met Rusty Hamer once in early 70s through his brother Art. Seemed like a nice guy, and I was sad to hear that he committed suicide years later.
