The Catholic thing doesn’t matter to me one way or another. But the Reagan thing has always made me wonder, Did he take a right turn, or was it just a Hollywood thing? Or was it just a case of recognizing Carter’s incompetence?

He endorsed Nixon over McGovern in 1972 so he might have broken with the Dems over their radicalism. It is clear that he had broken with the Kennedy clan by that time. Sinatra’s friendship with Ronald and Nancy Reagan undoubtedly was a high point of his later years. He visited them in the White House several times.
