The distruction of the mining industry started in 1983 after the year long strike by the mining union.
It wasn’t a strike in the usual sense, they where trying to force the govenment to invest in the industry and make it more efficient to bring it into the future as a profit making enterprise.
The Govenment declined and so did the industry.
