We don’t have covered parking here and it makes a lot of difference in the desert.
I’m sorry your mother is inconvenienced by that leak. Sometimes, when we are older, we get used to things that others consider luxuries, and it’s hard to adjust to something less, even for a short time. Been there, done that.
The last time I used a garage, was when Busdaddy and I lived in Northridge CA. We moved out and the entire complex was across the street from the epicenter of the Northridge earth quake. The complex was flattened.

I park on NYC streets. If the parking is covered, it’s by a tree. In that case the car either gets an amazing covering of bird poop or leaves, depending on the time of year.
Or dust.
