Steve Sarkisian files wrongful-termination lawsuit against USC
ESPN ^

His complaint asks for at least $12.6 million in damages, but Sarkisian's attorney told TMZ.com he will seek more than $30 million. In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, Sarkisian alleges the university fired him without accommodating his efforts to seek treatment for his "disability."

Sarkisian was on a flight to enter alcohol-rehabilitation treatment on Oct. 12 when he was fired via email by athletic director Pat Haden.

"Instead of supporting its Head Coach, Steve Sarkisian, when he needed its help the most, USC kicked him to the curb," the lawsuit states. "Instead of honoring the contract it made with Steve Sarkisian, USC kicked him to the curb. Instead of accommodating Steve Sarkisian's disability, USC kicked him to the curb."

The suit also asserts Sarkisian has, at times, been "a person with a disability" under federal law because of his alcoholism and that the stress of his job contributed to his alcohol dependency.

So his disability is that he can’t stop himself from getting drunk?

Steve, Step One is to take responsibility and not blame someone or something else.

Start there or you haven’t started.

What a whiny ass.......he’ll never coach again anywhere......hope this suit gets thrown out, but since it’s California, he’ll probably own USC before its over.

Haden will be lucky to have a job himself after this fiasco.

“he’ll never coach again anywhere”

Let me make a risky and early prediction:

He will some day coach at Kansas State.

K State? Really?

Why you say that? (Can’t Schneider coach forever?)

Snyder retired once...the new guy (Ron Prince) coached for 3 years and got fired...and Snyder came back.

Why did he come back? Its difficult to get a ‘big name’ coach to come to Kansas, and frankly they couldn’t find anyone to take the job - other than having Snyder come out of retirement.

And they have to have a ‘big name’, because the bitchy players formed an anti-Prince, cause he isn’t as good as Snyder cabal the last time around.

Sarkisian has a big enough name that the players won’t be butt hurt to have to play for him, even though their idol Snyder recruited them.

And Kansas State has a history of this...in basketball. When Bob Huggins got a DUI and resigned, many said he would never coach again. Most doors were shut. So Kansas State opened there door. He only stayed a short time and went on to his Alma Mater - his dream job as if the DUI never happened.

Just a Prediction.

It’s interesting idea....yes, I know about Bill retiring and then returning, and still coaching his fanny off.

And yeah, K State is a tough sell. Even S Carolina stole their bball coach.

I think Frank Martin and the athletic director had a big falling out over whether or not a questionably eligible player could participate in the NCAA tournament, and that is why there was a resignation. So I wouldn’t say Martin was ‘stolen’ away. I think he was happy at K-State and would have stayed much longer, except for that one big blow up.

I don’t think recruiting a basketball coach to Kansas is as tough of a sell. The sport has some deep history in the state. There current guy (Weber) has a decent resume.

Kansas does have a rich basketball tradition, but 95% of that is at KU and not KS or WSU.....

They like Martin at SC. He’s very strong medicine though....I wonder if a guy who charges that hard will last a long time at any one place.
