Your rights do not confer upon me an obligation to supply you with anything.
When you say that you have a right to healthcare you are saying that Government has an obligation to supply you with healthcare. In essence you are saying other citizens must supply you with healthcare because the government has no resources of its own. Government can not give you something unless it takes it from someone else.
Rights are in the US are freedoms from oppression by the government and are not guarantees of resources to be supplied by the government.
The right to own and carry a firearm is the natural extension of the right to live and the right to defend your own life from those that would unjustly take it. A firearm permits a weak man or woman to defend themselves against a strong man or several strong men. The right to do this is an obvious and natural fact.
To say that we do not have the right to defend our own lives is to say that we do not have a right to our lives. This is obviously false. So to say that we do not have the right to defend our lives with the most obviously efficient and effective weapon available is also obviously false. What other means is there available for a 90 pound woman to defend herself against a 240 pound man?
Many on the Left would like to have all kinds of rights: the right to be free from hunger, the right to free healthcare, the right to a free education and so on.
All of these rights are things that they want the government to supply to them for FREE.
All of these free things are anything but free. All of these things cost money that would have to be provided by imposing crushing taxes on the citizens of the nation. Besides imposing taxes, the people who provide these services would eventually see their wages cut because the government could only raise taxes so much before the political backlash became so great that the cost of the programs would have to be reduced. The obvious solution would be to cut wages.
Socialist utopias must eventually fail because desires of the people are never satisfied and the resources that can be taken by government are always limited. (Someday you will run out of other people’s money)
