Plenty of squirrels, still.

We still get squirrels. We're closer to the west side of the peninsula, just east of the hills separating us from Pacifica. Lots of wildlife move north/south on those hills from wildlife areas (Crystal Springs). Lot of roadkill during the night on streets. Lately been having black squirrels in our trees. Racoons, skunks and possums frequent our back yard. Cyclone fences that they dig a path under to go between most yards, which we don't mind because they're entertainment; big trees for squirrels to travel yard to yard. I don't mind most except for when racoons and skunks challenge each other, don't like the smell when skunks let loose. One time I was in the back yard and a pack of skunks came from behind, circling me inches away. This was middle of the day. They show no fear, although I did! My poor neighbor's golden retriever got squirted a couple times (same one attacked by a hawk). Better the dog got it than me. Our grandchildren are never unattended while in the back yard. Got scary last couple years with word of a wolf in the neighborhood (when most of the cats disappeared).

Kill every damn skunk you see, they are famous for rabies, same as coons.
The wolf scare was probably and most likely a large coyote, there aren’t any wolves down that far south as far as I know.
We have a few packs about 200 miles north of me, moving down out of southern Oregon, when they get to my property line, they get dead.
