Had to do it. Had to create the thread. The game is too damned good. This thread is reserved for hardcore gamers who play Fallout 4. Norm, KC, TADSLOS and I have hijacked so many threads discussing this game, I felt we needed our own thread.
Fallout 4 is amazing. The content is excessively large. There is so much to explore, you could replay this game 10 times and not find every mission or quest. The characters are so much better fleshed out than any other game I have played. Even the radio announcer of Diamond City Radio will have you doubling over in laughter, he's so inept at radio announcing. :) Your companions will pitch in with consistently new, sometimes insightful, and almost always area- or mission appropriate comments. I even got Piper (the hot Reporter chick) to sleep with me. It took a lot of sweet talking. But now she's in love. "Piper, how do you feel about our relationship?" Her answer: "Blue, this is as close to nirvana as I will ever find. Who knew a jaded reporter like me would find love in a wasteland?"
Fallout 4 is so graphics-intensive that I had to upgrade my video card to the GTX970 from Nividia, and I am so glad I did. 4 gigs of video memory, and a solid GPU array. Now I get 60 FPS (at the best) down to about 30 FOS (at the worst) with occasional dips to an unacceptable 24 FPS when in extremely busy, high clutter city areas with lots of combatants.
Our first topic: I want to mod the songs. I want change the Classical Radio Station to play songs I like.
I have six titles so far, that would fit in this game:
Filter's "Hey Man, Nice Shot" to be triggered during combat
Drowning Pool's "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor", also triggered during combat.
Lil Jon's "Turn Down For What"
Disturbed's "Down With The Sickness"
NIN's "Every Day Is Exactly The Same"
Any other suggestions?
So.. not counting inflatable chicks...

Celebrate diversity.
Right now whenever I build I have to reassign the move keys to WSAD. I'm going to look into AutoHotkey and see what I can do with that.
I never bothered with a lot of remapping. but yea, after 20 years of doing it one way, I’s demn sure want the ability to continue. I have been thinking about one of those left hand controllers like Razor makes. F4 has enough controls to make it worth doing for me.
Anyway the whole PC interface is pretty much a mess due to consolitis, a shame because this is a remarkably brilliant game and a whole pile of fun even with the warts.
I’m thinking this would make life a lot easier.

I use a Logitec wireless keyboard and trackball (I finally quit fighting the trackball thing and would never go back to a mouse willingly) I’d be giving up the wireless but oh well. Seems a better solution for me.
I suppose you could set it between mouse and keyboard and have controls on the right but it’s a pretty brute force solution for 4 keys.
What about one of those simple numberpad keyboard extender things that Staples or any computer place has? they have them in straight line as well. Could tuck one below the real arrow keys.
How about that.
Turns out there is a Gamestop in the same parking lot
where I’ll already be today. Been passing right by it
for months and didn’t even notice.
This may eventually lead me to let the Win-7 machine
upgrade to Win-10.. it has been prompting me for months
but frankly I saw no reason for it.. I ain’t mad at Win-7.
But I’m not too keen on gaming with the laptop.. old habits die hard.
Last time around I set up a different laptop with a real keyboard, monitor and mouse.
Because I’m hardheaded that way.
Dang thing eventually died from overheating due to “running while closed”.
Look for a docking port solution. It will give you a mouse and keyboard and you can attach a great monitor to it. Not sure you will find the right video card, though, my card I just bought would only fit in a desktop. If you can afford it, go for a full desktop.
I’m looking toward making it work with existing equipment.
Just flat out unwilling to let my beer budget take a hit.
I am sticking with 7/64 mostly so I don’t have to deal with the driver changeover for all my music crap. SUPPOSEDLY all my hardware that needs it has drivers available and the couple software prgs have upgrades available but I really don’t want to fornicate with it. It works.
Had another, though smaller Gunner war a bit ago. Lev 60 now so the enemies are a lot harder. They seem to be pretty easy to find/trip over when you go searching for materials to build your settlements. So you can blast people pretty much exclusively if thats what gets your kill on.
I just realized that Supermutants and muslims have a lot in common. Pig stupid, like green and have lots of suicide bombers among them. With mini nukes.
When you hear the beep speed up and get louder, become one with Brave Sir Robin or you will join Lord Atom in the great Division.
According to the official dope, it oughta run on both desktop and laptop.
The system requirements for Fallout 4 on PC are as follows:
Minimum:
Operating system: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 2.8GHz / AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz or equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Hard disk space: 30 GB free HDD space
Video: NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB or equivalent
I just upgraded my card so I could run all the settings wide open but the 7950 3GB I had handled everything BUT those fullscale wars pretty well on Ultra. On default settings all was fine. The game DOES NOT SUCK on standard settings and it looks good. If you have any performance issues, turn down “God Rays” first. Volumetric lighting takes a ton of power.
Measure twice, cut once.
Ran this “can I run this” on both machines.

No soap. Insufficient memory on one, wrong video setup on the other.
You’ll now excuse me while I eat a handful of blood thinners and slit my wrists.
Orrr...
Begin the less gratifying and slow process of getting at least one machine up to snuff.
Yeah, I’m pissed. Disappointed and pissed and where’s that bottle of Xarelto?

Good ram prices. They deal on recently older parts (new just never sold). Vid card is a more expensive proposition but you can ebay a 7590 or better card under $150ish.
Sell a Kidney. The beer will hit harder then, thus saving you money. Or just find a liberal and sell theirs. With them still attached.
It’s worth the upgrade.
Twofer.
Edit - 7950
Radeon is crap bro. You need so much more video card.
I can’t hear you, I’m bleeding out and crunching Xareltos.
Yup. You basically need a whole other box. How far off is the laptop?
