I remember when a local FM station changed from a country music to a rock and roll format. Giving us exactly one non country music FM station.
Now that’s considering there was still two country music stations left over.
They advertised for a month so country music listeners wouldn’t raise Cain, they did anyway.
I guess country music fans think as slow as they listen.
At exactly 11:59:30 on the appointed day the station finished the last country song it would broadcast.
The overnight DJ, Uncle Joe Bob, came on to say goodbye as he couldn’t abide rock and roll. He didn’t like anything but country music and Amazing Grace.
He did use the last seconds of his broadcast career to introduce the new overnight DJ, some gal named Periwinkle something or another.
Periwinkle something or another said hello and played the first non country song on an FM radio station in our area.
It was Alice’s Restaurant.
History was made.
Uncle Joe Bob was never heard on the radio again.
He spent his remaining days making the best illegal likker in these parts.
Periwinkle something or another played music overnight for three years then moved with some fella to the old gristmill.
They spent most of their time nekkid so they had plenty of kids running around.
These events happened exactly as I have said.
I think there’s a song in there somewhere but I don’t have the time.
I have to catch a train.
The fella that sold me the ticket said The City of New Orleans will get me five hundred miles before the day is done and that’s just about where I need to be.
and many of us WERE active in SOME fashion
and it was the best education I could have had for my fight(s) here and now.
