One of the frequently cited quips in the halls of Congress is that politics makes for strange bedfellows, meaning that some alliances between Democrats and Republicans, especially given today's toxic environment in Washington, are hard to fathom. However, perhaps even more difficult to understand is the strange affinity that has developed over the past two decades between Islamists – radical Muslims – and the American progressive movement, or what Michael Walsh has termed the "unholy left."
At first glance, the two entities seem utterly different – one proceeding from the darker recesses of Islamic culture, and the other a seemingly quintessential product of American idealism. In fact, however, what we find between the two political movements is a confluence of interests and perspectives on a variety of matters. Indeed, often the affinity of these two outlooks is frightening.
For instance, both share an animus bordering on hatred for Christianity and Judaism.

The political left and islam are both totalitarian ideologies and have historically killed all that don’t agree with them.
I think this particular ‘left’ is a group of intellectuals who feel a kinship of sorts with the Islamist side. They seem to think that whatever exists outside of Christianity might be appealing.
Its the 21st Century’s version of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
It’s the totalitarianism. It’s the drug of both the Muslims and the Left.
In the end, when they both “win,” each plans on killing the other off.
Then, the winner will execute all of their own internal dissenters. That will take awhile, until they’ve exterminated themselves completely. The last Leftist or Muslim, will kill the other last Leftist or Muslim, for not being pure enough.

I agree but I think it applies to all groups that adhere to a strict dogma with a central authority figure.

The problem being, is that leftists think that they will win.
If American kook-liberals are successful in eliminating any Christian conservative power, they will be easy pickings for the battle hardened, take no prisoner Islamists.

The leftist intellectuals will be the first to support Sharia law.
They might come to an understanding of "what's going on" at the moment they are having their throats cut.
By then it's lights out for America and the world.
I have no idea why the "intellectuals" in the US can't see how FOOLISH they are.
Because intelligence doesn't automatically equal wisdom.
And because intelligence often comes with a huge side of arrogance. Those who believe their intellect holds the answers to all the mysteries of the world are the same ones who believe there is no power greater than themselves. Avoid such people at all costs.
Wish it could be framed more elegantly, but it’s essentially whats going on.
I also think that there are those particularly communist type progressives that would use whatever means necessary, include take a chance with disaster like letting the Islamic movement grow as to pressure, confuse and muddle the issues, and think that afterwords they can dominate.

They already support Sharia. The very same leftists who go into a fit if they see a Christian symbol in a public place will excuse or even praise Sharia. They go into attack mode any time someone criticizes Sharia - they will say Islam is good and peaceful and they will call you a racist if you criticize Sharia.

The strangest aspect of this is that in a different context, liberals are happy to ban and outlaw any references to any of the Founding Fathers who owned slaves while at the same time they have no problems defending a religion whose followers even at this very moment justify seizing women for the purpose of making them sex slaves.
Just more proof that progressives have zero principles.
