The West should join in a rendition of “The Rains of Castamere”.

I think “ROCK THE CASBAH” would be a better song.

It's a beautiful song, but I'm guessing most people aren't familiar with the original lyrics (hint: mostly about sex.)
He ought to be playing "Nearer My God to Thee," like they did on the Titanic. Just before it sank.

Its a hymn for the godless.

I think it’s a stretch, or perhaps an oversimplification is more correct, to say it’s mostly about sex. I think it’s far more about the mysteries of love, of which sex (in the song) is a relatively small part.

I don’t care what it’s about. It’s a beautiful song. I love the K D Lang version. Most here would cuss her too but she’s one of my fave vocalists.

Anthem would also be appropriate but not really suitable for solo cello.

I personally don’t think anybody’s ever topped the Jeff Buckley version, which I think was the one that started the endless covers. KD Lang’s is pretty damned good, though.

Agree, her version is beautiful. Say what you will about her lifestyle; she could sing the phone book and make it sound beautiful.
Jeff Buckley’s version is my favorite, but KD Lang’s version is incredible.
To: baltiless
If you look at the lyrics in the 1988 version, it’s... pretty heavy on the sex part.

"Nearer, My God, To Thee" was probably not played on the
Titanic. However, it was heard being played on the battlefield at Gettysburg by a Confederate army band.
Incidentally the music was written by Lowell Mason, who also wrote the music for "Joy to the World," which we will be hearing frequently in the coming weeks.

I have got to see her perform one day.
I was given the grim task to sing as a funeral recently and was asked to sing Hallejuh.
It was impromptu and I knew it was rather lengthy and asked if “You raise Me Up” would be okay, as I didn’t want to become the center of attention.
I love beautiful voices and find them more fascinating than instruments....

Ever heard Leonard Cohen's "If it Be Your Will?" It's really haunting (and probably pretty good for a funeral.)
